PLAYLAND

Written by Athol Fugard
Produced at the Louis Bluver Theatre at the Drake in 2017

I produced Playland myself with the goal of reintroducing my directing work to the Philadelphia theatre community. Mark Cofta of The Broad Street Review saw the production and published a review saying, “Domingues drives the action forward relentlessly in Fugard’s 90-minute drama, yet also respects the necessary silences as each man wrestles with his conscience. Playland isn't an easy play to watch, though Domingues finds its moments of humor and tenderness, but it's a meaningful process that rewards the viewer.”

Plot SummarySet in a South African traveling amusement park on New Year s Eve, Athol Fugard's Playland explores the possibilities for blacks and whites to find understanding in a racially divided world. A volatile dialogue begins when two men - a former soldier and a night watchman - delve into their sordid pasts.
